Stig Severinsen Announces Powerful New Breathwork Audiobook

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
January 17, 2025

Copenhagen, Denmark — Stig Severinsen announces a new breathwork audiobook which is available in the Danish language in various online retailers. The audiobook is an update of his bestselling breathwork book “Træk Vejret – Mere energi – mindre stress” (released in several other languages under the title “Breatheology: The Art of Conscious Breathing”).

Stig Severinsen has made a name for himself in the world of competitive freediving with four world championship titles and multiple Guinness World Records, including his world record for swimming the longest distance under water on a single breath in open sea from 2020, and becoming the first person in the world to hold his breath for over 20 minutes. In 2012, Stig was crowned “The Ultimate Superhuman” on the Discovery Channel’s “Superhuman Showdown”.

Today, Stig focuses entirely on public speaking, 1:1 coaching and teaching the many benefits of conscious breathing through his Breatheology platform, making the world breathe better, one breath at a time. He combines his love for freediving with his scientific background (Stig holds a Master’s Degree in Biology and a Ph.D. in Medicine).

“Oxygen is our life energy. It’s what gives us strength and vitality. You optimize the way your body’s cells work when you get more oxygen into your body, resulting in more energy and greater resilience,” – Stig Severinsen

The updated breathwork audiobook provides listeners with simple breath-holding and breathing practices that can be applied easily in daily life to increase well-being and reduce stress & anxiety.

Reduce Stress with Practical Breathing Techniques

When Stig Severinsen wrote his breathwork book in 2009, hardly anyone was aware of how breathing affects our health. In the last few years, there has been a gradual increase in awareness with more and more companies offering breathing resources to their employees to increase happiness, reduce stress and prevent absenteism.

The most common mistake Stig Severinsen notices in many people is mouth breathing. This pattern of breathing often signals stress and restricts oxygen flow to the lower lungs.

“Mouth breathing often leads to shallow breaths in the chest and throat. Breathing through the nose ensures oxygen reaches deep into the lungs, energizing the body more effectively,” – Stig Severinsen

The most important step for long-term success and improvement of your breathing habits is consistency, Stig Severinsen explains. It is much better to practice a few minutes every day than dedicating a a whole hour in the weekend. Set the timer to remind you to take a break, like you do for lunch, and focus on your breath. It is a welcome pause for the body & mind and allows for negative thoughts to disappear and positive breathing patterns to re-occur.

Here is a quick and easy breathing technique from the new breathwork audiobook:

  1. Sit in a relaxed position (in the chair or on the floor on a yoga mat)
  2. Take a deep inhale through the nose (imagine you are taking a whiff of a beautiful flower)
  3. Put one hand on the belly and notice how it move as the stomach rises
  4. Pause and hold the breath for a moment
  5. Let the breath go through a slow, controlled exhalation

The key with this breathing exercise is to make the exhalation about twice the length of the inhalation. A prolonged exhale is a fast way to trigger the vagus nerve, responsible for managing the rest or digest part of our nervous system.

“Exhaling slowly is the key to calming the body. This practice not only enhances sleep quality but also boosts daily energy levels. People invest in diets and supplements, but proper breathing is the true foundation of health,”  – Stig Severinsen

Introducing the Art of Breath-Holding

Stig Severinsen’s background of freediving and yoga gives him an unique perspective on breathing. It has led him to focus on a much forgotten part of our breath: the pause. A proper breathing pattern consists of four parts: the inhalation, a short pause, an exhalation and another short pause. In the ancient traditions of pranayama, yogi masters would experiment with the length of the pause to fall into an even more deeper state of relaxation and clear the mind.

Breath-holding for longer than a momentary pause is a powerful tool. It trains your body & mind to go against the most powerful reflex in life. Here are some benefits to the breath-hold training explored in this breathwork audiobook:

  • Clear the mind from intrusive and negative thoughts in an instant
  • Build up CO2 tolerance for increased performance and endurance
  • Wake up fresh and full of energy with a breath-hold at the start of the day
